Irland

Ireland (; Ulster Scots: Airlann) is the third largest island in Europe behind Great Britain and Iceland. It is also the twentieth largest in the world. It lies to the northwest of Continental Europe and is surrounded by hundreds of islands and islets. To the east of Ireland, separated by the Irish Sea, is the island of Great Britain. Politically, the Republic of Ireland (also known simply as Ireland) covers five sixths of the island, with Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, covering the remainder in the northeast. The name 'Ireland' derives from the Irish word Éire, with the addition of the Germanic word 'land'. The derivation of Éire in turn is from Eueriio and Ériu. This word, from Proto-Celtic *Īwerjū, which also gave Middle Welsh Iwerd "Irish Sea", originally meant "fatness", in the sense of fertile.

Irland (amtlicher deutscher Name; irisch Éire [], engl. Ireland), häufig auch Republik Irland (irisch Poblacht na hÉireann, engl. Republic of Ireland), ist ein Inselstaat auf der gleichnamigen Insel Irland. Er grenzt im Norden an das Vereinigte Königreich (Provinz Nordirland) und ist im Osten von der Irischen See und im Westen und Süden vom Atlantik umgeben. Irland ist Mitglied der Europäischen Union. Der Großteil der Bevölkerung bekennt sich zum römisch-katholischen Glauben.

Irlandia jest trzecią pod względem wielkości wyspą w Europie. Jej powierzchnia wynosi 84 406 km², a linia brzegowa ma długość 32 589 km. Wyspa położona jest pomiędzy  Oceanem Atlantyckim a Morzem Irlandzkim. Pod względem politycznym wyspa podzielona jest na dwie części: Irlandię i Irlandię Północną która jest częścią Zjednoczonego Królestwa Wielkiej Brytanii i Irlandii Północnej.

Ирла́ндия (, , лат. Hibernia) — третий по величине остров в Европе; западный из двух крупнейших Британских островов. Расположен между 6° 20' — 10° 20' з. д. и 51° 25' — 55° 23' с. ш. (крайняя северная точка — мыс Малин-Хед). С востока омывается Ирландским морем, а также проливами Св. Георгия и Северным, с запада, севера и юга — Атлантическим океаном. Протяжённость с запада на восток — около 300 км, с севера на юг — около 450 км. Площадь острова — 84 тыс км².
