Iranian languages

This article deals with the language family. For languages spoken on the territory of Iran, see Languages of Iran. The Iranian languages are a branch of the Indo-European language family. With the Indo-Aryan languages they form the Indo-Iranian languages group. Avestan and Old Persian are the oldest recorded Iranian languages. Today, there are an estimated 150-200 million native speakers of Iranian languages. The 2005 SIL enumerates 87 varieties of Iranian languages, per number of native speakers, the greatest are Persian (ca. 70 million), Pashto (ca. 40 million), Kurdish (25 million) and Balochi (ca. 7 million); to compare these numbers against those for other languages, see list of languages by number of native speakers.

Die iranischen Sprachen (auch: eranische Sprachen, iranoarische Sprachen) bilden eine Unterfamilie des indoiranischen Zweigs der indogermanischen Sprachfamilie. Weltweit gibt es ca. 150 Millionen Menschen, die eine der etwa 50 neuiranischen Sprachen als Muttersprache sprechen, weitere 30-50 Millionen nutzen eine iranische Sprache als Zweit- oder Drittsprache.

Języki irańskie – podrodzina języków indoeuropejskich, którymi posługuje się około 75 mln osób zamieszkujących Bliski i Środkowy Wschód oraz Azję Środkową. Wśród nich najbardziej rozpowszechnione są: perski (21 mln), paszto (20 mln) i kurdyjski (16 mln). Języki irańskie wyodrębniły się około 1500 r. p.n.e. z indoirańskiej wspólnoty językowo-kulturowej. W okresie staroirańskim (1500-300 r. p.n.e.) języki staroirańskie podzieliły się na cztery grupy terytorialne (południowo-zachodnią, południowo-wschodnią, północno-zachodnią i północno-wschodnią), które w zasadzie istnieją do dziś. Najstarsze zapisy języków irańskich pochodzą z VI w. p.n.e. – jest to święta księga zaratusztrianizmu Awesta w języku awestyjskim oraz napisy naskalne w języku staroperskim.

Le lingue iraniche sono un ramo della famiglia linguistica indoeuropea con un numero stimato di 150-200 milioni di parlanti di madrelingua. Insieme alle lingue indiane formano il gruppo indoiranico. L'avestico e l'antico persiano, compresi nel ramo iranico, costituiscono due delle lingue indoeuropee di più antica attestazione (insieme con sanscrito, vedico, greco e ittito).
