Ion

An ion is an atom or molecule which has lost or gained one or more electrons, making it positively or negatively charged. A negatively charged ion, which has more electrons in its electron shells than it has protons in its nuclei, is known as an anion (; an-eye-on) due to its attraction to anodes. Conversely, a positively-charged ion, which has fewer electrons than protons, is known as a cation (; cat-eye-on) due to its attraction to cathodes.

Ein Ion [] (von altgr.  bzw. ión, „gehend“) ist ein elektrisch geladenes Atom oder Molekül. Es enthält mindestens einen positiv geladenen Atomkern. Dessen oder deren Ladung entspricht der Zahl der enthaltenen Protonen. Daneben kann ein Ion Elektronen enthalten. Die nach außen wirksame, beobachtbare Ladung des Ions entsteht durch die unterschiedlichen Anzahlen von Protonen und Elektronen. Ionen sind durch Elektronenmangel positiv, oder durch Elektronenüberschuss negativ geladen.

Jon – atom lub grupa atomów połączonych wiązaniami chemicznymi, która ma niedomiar lub nadmiar elektronów w stosunku do protonów. Obojętne elektrycznie atomy i cząsteczki związków chemicznych posiadają równą liczbę elektronów i protonów, jony zaś są elektrycznie naładowane dodatnio lub ujemnie. Jony naładowane dodatnio nazywa się kationami, zaś ujemnie anionami. Jony mogą występować samodzielnie, w stanie wolnym (zwykle w fazie gazowej) lub tworzą tzw. pary jonowe, które mogą być luźno z sobą związane lub odwrotnie - tworzyć silne wiązania. Silnie związane pary jonowe tworzą chemiczne wiązania jonowe, obecne w wielu związkach chemicznych. Powstanie jonu z obojętnego atomu lub cząsteczki nazywamy jonizacją.

In chimica, una molecola o un atomo elettricamente carichi vengono detti ioni. Poiché hanno perso o guadagnato uno o più elettroni rispetto all'atomo neutro, il processo di perdita/acquisizione viene detto ionizzazione. In fisica, nuclei atomici completamente ionizzati, come quelli delle particelle alfa, vengono comunemente detti particelle cariche. La ionizzazione viene eseguita solitamente tramite applicazione di alta energia agli atomi, in forma di potenziale elettrico o radiazione. Un gas ionizzato viene detto plasma.
