Iolcos

Iolcos (also known as Iolkos or Iolcus, Greek: Ιωλκός) was an ancient city in Thessaly, central-eastern Greece (near the modern city of Volos). Today Iolcos is a small village, which has a school and a small square (plateia). Iolcos is also used as a name to describe a municipality that belongs in the province of Volos. With a land area of only 1.981 km² it is the 13th-smallest municipality or community in Greece, and the smallest that is not a suburb of Athens or Thessaloniki.

Jolkos (obecnie Volos) miasto w starożytnej Tessalii w pobliżu Zatoki Pagasyjskiej. Według mitologii władcą Jolkos był Ajzon syn Tyro i Kreteusa. Tronu pozbawił go przyrodni brat, Pelias. W tym mieście Jazon wraz z Argonautami rozpoczął i zakończył wyprawę po złote runo.

Iolkos (Grieks: , gelatiniseerd als Iolcus) is de naam van een antieke Griekse stad in de landstreek Magnesia, gelegen aan de noordelijke kust van de Golf van Pagasae (of Pagasitische Golf). Tegenwoordig bevindt het territorium van Iolkos zich in de westelijke buitenwijken van de nieuwe stad Volos.
