International Space Station

The International Space Station (ISS) is a research facility currently being assembled in  space. The building of ISS started in 1998. The station is in a low Earth orbit and can be seen from Earth with the naked eye: its altitude varies from 319.6 km to 346.9 km above the surface of the Earth (198.6 to 215.6 mi). It travels at an average speed of 27,744 km (17,240 mi) per hour, completing 15.7 orbits per day. The ISS is a joint project between the space agencies of the United States (NASA), Russia (RKA), Japan (JAXA), Canada (CSA) and several European countries (ESA).

Die Internationale Raumstation (engl. International Space Station, kurz ISS) ist eine bemannte Raumstation, die derzeit in internationaler Kooperation betrieben und weiter ausgebaut wird.Die Pläne für eine große, internationale Raumstation gehen bis in die 1980er Jahre zurück. Die Station war damals noch unter den Namen Freedom oder Alpha in Planung. Die ISS befindet sich seit 1998 im Bau und ist zur Zeit das größte künstliche Objekt im Erdorbit. Sie kreist in ca. 350 km Höhe mit einer  Bahnneigung von 51,6° alle 92 min um die Erde und soll nach ihrer geplanten Fertigstellung im Jahre 2010 maximale Abmessungen von etwa 110 m x 90 m x 30 m erreichen. Danach soll sie mindestens bis ins Jahr 2016 weiterbetrieben werden.

Międzynarodowa Stacja Kosmiczna (ang. International Space Station, ISS; ros. Международная Космическая Станция, МКС, trb.: Mieżdunarodnaja Kosmiczeskaja Stancyja, MKS) – pierwsza stacja kosmiczna wybudowana z założenia przy współudziale wielu krajów. Składa się obecnie z 7 głównych modułów (docelowo ma ich liczyć 16) i umożliwia jednoczesne przebywanie trzech członków stałej załogi (od roku 2008 na stacji stale ma przebywać 6 osób). Pierwsze moduły stacji zostały wyniesione na orbitę i połączone ze sobą w 1998 roku. Pierwsza stała załoga zamieszkała na niej w roku 2000. Źródłem zasilania ISS są baterie słoneczne, transportem ludzi i materiałów zajmują się amerykańskie wahadłowce programu STS (od lutego 2003 do 26 lipca 2005 wstrzymane z powodu katastrofy Columbii) oraz rosyjskie statki kosmiczne Sojuz i Progress.

La Stazione Spaziale Internazionale (in lingua inglese International Space Station o ISS) rappresenta un avamposto permanente della presenza umana nello spazio, è abitata continuativamente dal 2 novembre 2000 da almeno 2 astronauti. L'equipaggio, da allora, è stato sostituito più volte, con cadenza semestrale. Segue i programmi Skylab (statunitense) e Mir (russo).
