Internal Revenue Service

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is the United States federal government agency that collects taxes and enforces the internal revenue laws. The official U.S. Treasury regulations provide (in part): HistoryBureau of Internal Revenue In 1862, during the Civil War, President Lincoln and Congress created the office of Commissioner of Internal Revenue and enacted an income tax to pay war expenses (see Revenue Act of 1862). The position of Commissioner exists today as the head of the Internal Revenue Service.

Der Internal Revenue Service (IRS) (Abkürzung IRS) ist die Bundessteuerbehörde der Vereinigten Staaten und ist dem Finanzministerium unterstellt. Sie wurde 1913 in Folge der Verabschiedung des 16. Zusatzartikel zur amerikanischen Verfassung gegründet. Die Aufgabe der Behörde ist die Erhebung aller Bundessteuern sowie Ermittlungen in Steuerstrafsachen und der Forderungseinzug. Die IRS hat 100,000 Mitarbeiter und einen Etat von 10 Mrd. US-Dollar (Stand 2007). Behördenleiter ist als Commissioner of Internal Revenue derzeit Kevin M. Brown Die Bundessteuerbehörde IRS hat ihren Sitz an der Constitution Avenue in Washington D.C.

IRS podlega pod Departament Skarbu Państwa.Zatrudnionych pracowników jest ponad 115.000, dyrektorem jest Mark W. Everson, zaakceptowany przez Senat USA 1 maja 2003. W 2006 w budynku centrali w Waszyngtonie miała miejsce powódź wyrządzając straty 25 mln USD.
