The Institute of Broadcast Sound is the only organisation in the
UK dedicated to the maintenance of the highest standards of
professional audio for broadcasting, and was founded in 1977 by sound supervisors in BBC Television. Initially conceived as an organisation for television sound balancers, its remit was quickly extended to include all audio practitioners working in any sphere of broadcast audio including radio, location, and post-production sound. It now (2006) has over 800 members, and is managed by an executive committee drawn from the membership and elected annually.
