Inmarsat

Inmarsat plc is an international telecommunications company founded in 1979, originally as an intergovernmental organization. It operates a fleet of eleven (as of 2005) geosynchronous telecommunications satellites. The company is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange (LSE: ISAT) as of June 2005. It is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

Die Organisation Inmarsat (Abkürzung für International Maritime Satellite) wurde 1979 von der UN-Unterorganisation International Maritime Organization (IMO) gegründet mit der Aufgabe, Nachrichtenverbindungen für die Hochseeschifffahrt über geostationäre Satelliten herzustellen. Zunächst mietete Inmarsat Satelliten an. Seit 1983 betreibt sie eigene, die sie über mehr als 20 Bodenstationen steuert. Im April 1999 wurde Inmarsat privatisiert und unter Aufsicht der International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) gestellt.

Organizacja Inmarsat (skrót od International Maritime Satellite) została utworzona w 1979 roku przez Międzynarodową Organizację Morską (International Maritime Organization) —- wyspecjalizowaną agendę ONZ-u. Jej zadaniem miało być zapewnienie komunikacji statkom. Komunikacja miała się odbywać za pośrednictwem satelitów geostacjonarnych. Początkowo Inmarsat wynajmował satelity. Od 1983 roku korzysta z własnych. Obsługiwane są z ponad dwudziestu stacji naziemnych. W kwietniu 1999 dokonano prywatyzacji Inmarsatu, który od tego czasu podlega kontroli International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO). Akcje Inmarsatu są notowane na Giełdzie Papierów Wartościowych w Londynie (London Stock Exchange) i wchodzą w skład wskaźnika FTSE 250.
