It is situated on the Malwa Plateau, just south of the Satpura Range. Indore is the administrative headquarters of the Indore District and the Indore Division, and formerly served as the capital of the former princely state of Indore and the summer capital of the erstwhile state of Madhya Bharat. It is currently the largest city in Madhya Pradesh.

Indore (in hindi इन्दौर; marathi इंदूर), è una città dell'India centrale, nella parte occidentale dello stato del Madhya Pradesh, del quale è il maggiore centro urbano con una popolazione di circa 1.850.000 abitanti. Situata sull'altopiano di Malwa, a sud della catena del Satpura, Indore è stata capitale dello stato del Madhya Bharat, costituitosi nel 1950 e che nel 1956 ha concorso alla creazione del nuovo stato del Madhya Pradesh.Indore è un importante centro commerciale ed un polo industriale e tecnologico. In particolare è molto sviluppato il settore riguardante la produzione di software.
