Indo-European languages

The Indo-European languages comprise a family of several hundred related languages and dialects , including most of the major languages of Europe, the northern Indian subcontinent (South Asia), the Iranian plateau (Southwest Asia), and much of Central Asia. Indo-European (Indo refers to the Indian subcontinent) has the largest numbers of speakers of the recognised families of languages in the world today, with its languages spoken by approximately three billion native speakers.

En linguistique, les langues indo-européennes forment une famille de langues ayant une origine commune, l’indo-européen commun. Elles regroupent environ un millier de langues parlées par trois milliards d’individus. On suppose que toutes ces langues proviennent d'une unique langue mère, la langue indo-européenne. Bien que ceci reste une théorie (il n'y a aucune trace écrite, ceci datant de l'époque pré-historique), elle en demeure aujourd'hui solide. On a pu reconstituer cette langue par recoupements (phonétiques, grammaticaux..) entre ces différentes langues.

Die Indogermanischen bzw. (seltener) Indoeuropäischen Sprachen bilden die heute meistverbreitete Sprachfamilie der Welt mit mehr als 2,5 Mrd. Muttersprachlern. Ihre große Verbreitung ist vor allem Ergebnis der Kolonisationspolitik seit dem 16. Jahrhundert. Die dazugehörigen Sprachen zeigen weitreichende Übereinstimmungen beim Wortschatz, in der Flexion, in grammatischen Kategorien wie Numerus und Genus und im Ablaut.

Języki indoeuropejskie - jedna z największych i najwcześniej odkrytych rodzin języków. Zalicza się do niej kilkaset spokrewnionych ze sobą języków współczesnych, używanych od kilku tysięcy lat w Europie, Indiach (stąd przymiotnik indoeuropejski) i południowo-zachodniej Azji. W czasach nowożytnych języki indoeuropejskie rozprzestrzeniły się na wszystkie kontynenty, głównie za sprawą angielskiego, hiszpańskiego i portugalskiego. Obecnie jako językami ojczystymi posługuje się nimi ok. 3 miliardy osób na całym świecie (co stanowi ok. 45% ziemskiej populacji).
