Indianapolis International Airport is a public airport located seven miles (11 km) southwest of the central business district of Indianapolis, a city in Marion County, Indiana, United States. It is owned by the Indianapolis Airport Authority and is presently operated by British airport operator BAA. The airport is the largest in Indiana and a major hub for FedEx. This facility occupies approximately 7,700 acres (about 12 square miles) of land in Wayne and Decatur Townships of Marion County, all within the city of Indianapolis. It is also a focus city for AirTran Airways and Northwest Airlines. As of 2006, it was the only commercial airport in the United States to be completely managed by a private firm; however, the management contract is in the process of being terminated, as BAA's new ownership opted not to bid on an extension.
