Incitation à caractère économique de la part d'un donneur d'ordre afin d'amener son partenaire ou son sous-traitant à aller au delà de ses strictes obligations contractuelles dans un sens souhaité par le donneur d'ordre.
Ces incitations peuvent être développées sous la forme d'un plan d'intéressement lié à la réalisation d'objectifs identifiés et quantifiables à atteindre tels que la qualité, le planning, la sécurité, les délais, etc…
Dans certains contrats de maîtrise d'œuvre, l'incitation peut être liée au montant de l'investissement, le maître de l'ouvrage et le maître d'œuvre convenant de partager, selon une formule convenue, les conséquences financières des écarts par rapport à l'objectif budgétaire.
