Image Comics

Image Comics is an American comic book publisher. It was founded in 1992 by seven high-profile illustrators as a venue where creators could publish their material without giving up the copyrights to the characters they created, as creator-owned properties. Image's success has significantly changed the position of creators in the comic book industry, but infighting between its partners and their lack of business experience have contributed to sometimes-volatile fortunes for the company. Nevertheless, the company is often America's third-largest comic book publisher, competing with Dark Horse for the position, behind Marvel and DC.

Image Comics est le troisième plus gros éditeur de comics aux États-Unis (après Marvel Comics et DC Comics). La société a été fondé en 1992 par sept auteurs de talent dans le but de laisser le copyright des personnages à leurs propres créateurs, pour ne pas freiner la créativité. Le succès d'Image a changé de manière significative le rôle des auteurs dans l’industrie des comics, mais des tensions internes et le manque de vision commerciale de ses fondateurs ont donné à cette maison d'édition une existence tumultueuse.

Image Comics, of kortweg Image, is een in 1992 opgerichte Amerikaanse uitgeverij van 'comics', een Amerikaanse vorm van stripverhalen. Zes voormalig werknemers van de grote maatschappijen Marvel Comics en DC Comics kwamen tot dit initiatief omdat zij zelf de creatieve rechten wilden op de verhalen en personages die zij bedachten, in plaats van dat die automatisch naar hun werkgevers gingen. Soms wordt Whilce Potracio tot de zevende oprichter gerekend, hoewel hij er iets later bijkwam.
