An ice age, or more precisely, a glacial age, is a period of long-term reduction in the temperature of the Earth's surface and atmosphere, resulting in the presence or expansion of continental ice sheets, polar ice sheets and alpine glaciers. Within a long-term ice age, individual pulses of cold climate are termed "glacial periods" (or alternatively "glacials" or "glaciations" or colloquially as "ice age"), and intermittent warm periods are called "interglacials". Glaciologically, ice age implies the presence of extensive ice sheets in the northern and southern hemispheres. By this definition, we are still in the ice age that began at the start of the Pleistocene epoch, because the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets still exist.

Ice Age ist ein US-amerikanischer Film aus dem Jahr 2002, der ursprünglich von 20th Century Fox als Zeichentrickfilm geplant war. Aufgrund der kommerziellen Flops der mit traditioneller Zeichentricktechnik hergestellten Filme Anastasia und Titan A.E. sowie der Erfolge der computeranimierten Pixar-Produktionen wurde Ice Age dann aber von Blue Sky Studios komplett computeranimiert umgesetzt.

Eiszeitalter, kurz auch Eiszeiten, sind Perioden der Erdgeschichte, in denen mindestens ein Pol der Erde vergletschert ist. Seit etwa 30 Millionen Jahren befindet sich die Erde im aktuellen Känozoischen Eiszeitalter. Seit dieser Zeit ist die Antarktis extrem und die Arktis (erst seit ca. 2,7 Millionen Jahren) weniger stark vergletschert.

Istid är en en period i jordens historia som kännetecknas av att stora landområden är täckta med is. Termen kan både syfta på en nedisning (exempelvis Weichsel) och en längre tidsperiod med flera nedisningar.

Epoka lodowa, rzadziej lodowcowa epoka - historyczny termin na określenie okresu zlodowaceń w Europie odpowiadający z grubsza plejstocenowi, zaproponowany w 1837 przez niemieckiego botanika K. Schimpera jako alternatywa terminu dyluwium. Później stosowana także poza Europą. Obecnie termin ten nie jest używany w nauce w pierwotnym znaczeniu (jako synonim plejstocenu lub jednostka stratygraficzna), natomiast częściowo przetrwał w nazwach epizodów ochłodzeń holocenu, np. mała epoka lodowa. Używa się go też często w pracach popularnonaukowych (np. Andel) i w niektórych naukowych (zwłaszcza ogólnych podręcznikach anglojęzycznych pod angielską nazwą ice age) na określenie glacjałów plejstocenu. Czasami także w znacznie szerszym aspekcie dla każdego okresu, gdy istniały rozległe lądolody (np. Snowball Earth).

Epoka lodowcowa (ang. Ice Age) – film animowany wyprodukowany w 2002 roku przez 20th Century Fox. Został wyreżyserowany przez Chrisa Wedge’a i Carlosa Saldanha. W 2006 roku wyświetlono jego kontynuację, Epokę Lodowcową 2: Odwilż. Obecnie trwają prace nad trzecią cześcią, której premiera odbędzie się prawdopodobnie w 2009 roku.
