ISO 639

ISO 639 is the set of international standards that lists short codes for language names. ISO 639 consists of different parts, of which two parts have been approved and a third part that is in the final approval (FDIS) stage. ISO 639 ist ein internationaler Standard der Internationalen Organisation für Normung, welcher Kennungen für Namen von Sprachen (Sprachcodes) definiert. Der Standard besteht aus mehreren Teilnormen. Drei Teile für Kennungen mit zwei Buchstaben (ISO 639-1) und drei Buchstaben (ISO 639-2 und ISO 639-3) sind bereits verabschiedet und werden weitläufig verwendet; darauf aufbauend sind mit ISO 639-4 bis -6 weitere Teile in Entwicklung (Stand: August 2007).
