ISO 639-2

ISO 639-2 is the second part of the ISO 639 standard, which lists codes for the representation of the names of languages. The three-letter codes given for each language in this part of the standard are referred to as "Alpha-3" codes. There are 464 language codes in the list.The U.S. Library of Congress is the registration authority for ISO 639-2 (referred to as ISO 639-2/RA). As registration authority, the LOC receives and reviews proposed changes; they also have representation on the ISO 639-RA Joint Advisory Committee responsible for maintaining the ISO 639 code tables.

ISO 639 ist ein internationaler Standard der Internationalen Organisation für Normung, welcher Kennungen für Namen von Sprachen (Sprachcodes) definiert. Der Standard besteht aus mehreren Teilnormen. ISO 639-2 è uno dei tanti standard internazionali ISO 639 che elenca codici brevi per i nomi delle Lingue. Pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1998 come Codici per la rappresentazione dei nomi delle lingue -- Parte 2: Alpha-3 code. In questa codifica ventidue lingue hanno due codici a tre lettere. Per queste lingue, il primo codice a tre lettere è per uso bibliografico (ISO 639-2/B), mentre il secondo è per uso terminologico (ISO 639-2/T).
