ISO 3166-2

ISO 3166-2 is the second part of the ISO 3166 standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It is a geocode system created for coding the names of country subdivisions and dependent areas. The purpose of the standard is to establish a worldwide series of short abbreviations for places, for use on package labels, containers, and such; anywhere where a short alphanumeric code can serve to clearly indicate a location in a more convenient and less ambiguous form than the full place name. There are around 3700 different codes.

ISO 3166-2 ist der zweite Teil des ISO-Standards ISO 3166. Er definiert rund 3.700 Kennungen (Codes) für subnationale Einheiten und von Staaten abhängige Gebiete.Der Teilstandard wurde 1998 unter dem vollständigen Titel ISO 3166-2:1998 Codes for the representation of names of countries and their subdivisions - Part 2: Country subdivision code mit Codes für weltweit jedes Land verabschiedet. Änderungen an Einzelstaaten und subnationalen Einheiten, wie sie beispielsweise durch eine Verwaltungsreform vorkommen, werden laufend in den Standard eingearbeitet. Seit 2000 hat die Maintenance Agency for ISO 3166 country codes dazu bislang (Mitte 2007) acht Newsletter herausgegeben, die online frei zugänglich sind.

Służy do kodowania nazw państw, terytoriów zależnych oraz jednostek ich podziałów administracyjnych. Jest odmianą geokodu. Kod ten - krótki symbol zrozumiały na całym świecie - stworzono z myślą o ujednoliceniu oznaczeń dla adresów, kontenerów itp.

L' ISO 3166-2 è la seconda parte dello standard ISO 3166. È stato creato per codificare i nomi delle suddivisioni territoriali delle nazioni e delle aree dipendenti. Lo scopo dello standard è quello di stabilire una serie di abbreviazioni internazionali dei luoghi, da utilizzare per le etichette di spedizione, i contenitori, e più in generale, ovunque un codice alfanumerico possa essere usato per indicare una località in modo meno ambiguo e più pratico del nome completo. All'interno di Wikipedia, i codici nazionali sono usati per creare i collegamenti alle pagine delle varie versioni nazionali.
