<onlyinclude> ISO 3166-1 is part of the ISO 3166 standard published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and defines codes for the names of countries, dependent territories, and special areas of geographical interest. The official name of the standard is Codes for the representation of names of countries and their subdivisions – Part 1: Country codes. It defines three sets of country codes:

• ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 – two-letter country codes which are the most widely used of the three, and used most prominently for the Internet's country code top-level domains (with a few exceptions).
• ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 – three-letter country codes which allow a better visual association between the codes and the country names than the alpha-2 codes.
• ISO 3166-1 numeric – three-digit country codes which are identical to those developed and maintained by the United Nations Statistics Division, with the advantage of script (writing system) independence, and hence useful for people or systems using non-Latin scripts.</onlyinclude>

Die ISO 3166 ist ein Standard für die Kodierung von geographischen Einheiten, herausgegeben von der Internationalen Organisation für Normung (ISO).

Die im Jahre 1974 erstmals eingeführte ISO-3166-1-Kodierliste gliedert sich, nach Ländern sortiert, in

• drei Unterspalten für die ALPHA-2, ALPHA-3 und numerischen Codes, die im ersten Teil der ISO 3166 aufgeführt sind, und
• Spalten für die Top Level Domains (TLD), die Ländercodes des Internationalen Olympischen Komitees (IOC), Codes für Staaten mit subnationalen Einheiten entsprechend der ISO 3166-2 sowie die UN/LOCODEs.

ISO 3166-1 est une des parties de la norme ISO 3166. Publiée pour la première fois en 1974 par l’ISO, elle attribue 3 codes pour les pays du monde :

• ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes à deux lettres pour de nombreuses applications, notamment les domaines de premier niveau pour chaque pays, ou les codes des unités monétaires ISO 4217.
• ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 codes à trois lettres.
• ISO 3166-1 numeric codes à trois chiffres, identiques à ceux définis par la Division statistique des Nations unies, dans la spécification UN M.49 (Toutefois, toutes les entités géopolitiques statistiques retenues dans UN M.49 ne sont pas des entités retenues dans ISO 3166-1 car toutes ne désignent pas des pays ou territoires autonomes, car on y trouve aussi des codes pour le monde, les continents, et des grandes régions de continents, ou certains regroupements correspondant à d’anciens pays et contenant chacun plusieurs pays actuels, alors que la norme ISO 3166-1 est définie pour coder des territoires actuels sans que l’un ne puisse inclure totalement ni partiellement l’autre).

ISO 3166 är en internationell standard för landskoder, korta bokstavskombinationer, som används för att beteckna länder i till exempel domännamn på Internet, framför allt toppdomäner.

ISO 3166-1 jest częścią standardu ISO 3166, zawierającego zasady kodowania oraz kody dla nazw państw oraz terytoriów. Po raz pierwszy był opublikowany w 1974 roku przez Międzynarodową Organizację Normalizacyjną (ISO). Określa on trzy różne systemy kodowania:

• ISO 3166-1 alfa-2, to dwuliterowy system kodowania, posiadający wiele zastosowań; najbardziej popularnym są domeny internetowe (ang. Top Level Domain - TLD) dla potrzeb Internetu. Ze standardem tym ściśle związane są:
  • ISO 3166-2, który określa kody dla pierwszego poziomu podziału administracyjnego każdego państwa na stany, prowincje czy województwa;
  • ISO 3166-3, zawierający zmiany w systemie kodowania alfa-2;
  • ISO 4217, który określa kody dla systemów monetarnych.
