IPS (Intrusion Prevention System - ang. system zapobiegania włamaniom) - pochodna systemu IDS. Działanie IPS polega na zwiększeniu bezpieczeństwa sieci, poprzez aktywne przeciwdziałanie atakom w czasie rzeczywistym, a nie jak w przypadku IDS po jego wystąpieniu.Systemy IPS wykrywają złośliwe pakiety wewnątrz normalnego ruchu w sieci. Dzisiejsze systemy IPS występują pod postacią kompleksowych pakietów bezpieczeństwa w skład których wchodzą m.in. Firewall + IDS/IPS (właściwe) + Antywirus + dodatkowe narzędzia zapewniające prywatność i poufność.
