IEO

The Institut d'Estudis Occitans (IPA [isti'tyd des'tyðiz utsi'tas]), or IEO, or Occitan Studies Institute, or Institute for Occitan Studies, is a cultural association that was created in 1945. It aims at both maintaining and developing the language and influence of Occitania through the supervision, harmonization and normalization of everything dealing with the nation's life and culture (excepting language codification, which is now regulated by the Conselh de la Lenga Occitana). The IEO is divided into regional and departmental sections and local circles that cover the whole of the country from Lemòtges and Clarmont up north to Marselha, Tolosa or Bordèu down south. There is even one in Paris. What's the more, a number of carefully-targeted activities are sponsored by groups and other associations affiliated with the Institute, or by members themselves. The IEO is the Occitan counterpart of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. Its motto is La fe sens òbras mòrta es (see picture) (Dead is faith without art).

L’Institut d'études occitanes (Institut d'Estudis Occitans en occitan, ou IEO) est une association loi de 1901 créée en 1945 par de jeunes écrivains issus de la Résistance. C’est une association culturelle qui a pour but le maintien et le développement de la langue et de la culture occitanes par la direction, l’harmonisation et la normalisation de tous les travaux qui concernent la culture occitane dans son ensemble.

Das Institut d’Estudis Occitans (IEO; dt.: Institut für okzitanische Studien) ist eine kulturell orientierte, wissenschaftliche, private, nicht-öffentliche Gesellschaft, die sich der Förderung der okzitanischen Sprache und Kultur verschrieben hat.Das Institut wurde 1945 in Toulouse von Robèrt Lafont, Juli Cubainas, Pèire Lagarda, Leon Còrdas, Max Roqueta, Fèlix Castanh, Renat Nelli und anderen wissenschaftlichen Vertretern der okzitanischen Sprache gegründet. Im Jahr 1986 wurde die Institution durch das französische Ministerium für Jugend und Erziehung offiziell anerkannt. Das Institut baute auf Vorarbeiten der 1920 gegründeten Societat d’Estudis Occitans (dt: Gesellschaft für okzitanische Studien) auf. Das Institut arbeitete in seiner Zielverfolgung wesentlich direkter und dynamischer als seine Vorgängerorganisation. Das Institut hat seinen Hauptsitz in Toulouse. Es ist in zahlreichen regionalen und Departement-basierten Sektionen in ganz Okzitanien und den okzitanisch-sprachigen piemontesischen Alpentälern Italiens organisiert. Diese Sektionen unterstützen zahlreiche lokale Arbeitskreise.
