An intensified charge-coupled device (ICCD) is a CCD that is fiber-optically connected to a micro-channel plate (MCP) to increase the sensitivity. In ICCD Cameras a photo-cathode in front of the MCP converts photons to electrons which are multiplied by the MCP. After the MCP a phosphor screen converts the electrons back to photons which are fiber-optically guided to the CCD. Also several cascades of MCPs are used.

Ein Intensified Charged-Coupled Device (ICCD) ist ein Bildsensor, der aus einem CCD besteht, an dem durch eine Faseroptik eine Mikrokanalplatte zur Erhöhung der Empfindlichkeit angekoppelt ist. Die frontseitige Photokathode der Mikrokanalplatte fängt das Bild auf wandelt die eintreffende Photonen in Elektronen um, die beim durchlaufen der Mikrokanalplatte verstärkt und auf einem rückseitigen Fluoreszenzschirm wieder in Photonen gewandelt werden. Diese werden - Bildpunkt für Bildpunkt - durch die Faseroptik auf das CCD übertragen. Mit ICCDs ist es möglich, einzelne Photonen zu detektieren.

Tecnología, Conocemos por iCCD (CCD intensificado) un tipo especial de CCD (Dispositivo de Cargas Acopladas o Interconectadas) que permite no sólo recibir una señal óptica, sino amplificarla. Estos dispositivos son una evolución mejorada de los anteriores y presentan una mayor sensibilidad, pudiendo procesar y trabajar con señales de menor intensidad.
