IBM PC compatible
IBM PC compatible computers are those generally similar to the original IBM PC, XT, and AT. Such computers used to be referred to as PC clones, or IBM clones since they almost exactly duplicated all the significant features of the PC architecture, facilitated by various manufacturers' ability to legally reverse engineer the BIOS through clean room design. Columbia Data Products built the first clone of the IBM personal computer through a clean room implementation of its BIOS. Many early IBM PC compatibles used the same computer bus as the original PC and AT models. The IBM AT compatible bus was later named the Industry Standard Architecture bus by manufacturers of compatible computers. The term "IBM PC compatible" is now a historical description only since IBM has withdrawn from personal computer sales.

IBM-PC-kompatibler Computer
Als IBM-PC-kompatible Computer bezeichnet man historisch gesehen Computer, die dem original IBM-PC Design nachempfunden sind. Heute wird die Bezeichnung seltener und wesentlich allgemeiner für Systeme verwendet, die nach einem Prozessor-Reset den Prozessor Intel 8086 (oder höher) nachbilden (siehe auch x86-Prozessor) und ein (x86-kompatibles) BIOS starten. Letzteres wird in der Zukunft von dem moderneren EFI abgelöst werden.

Compatible PC
Un compatible PC, ou simplement un PC, est un ordinateur compatible avec l'IBM PC apparu en 1981. En 2008, pratiquement tous les ordinateurs personnels sont des compatibles PC. Ils sont basés sur les microprocesseurs de la famille x86 inventée par Intel. Les systèmes d'exploitation MS-DOS, Windows, OS/2, GNU/Linux et Mac OS X ont notamment été créés pour les compatibles PC.

IBM PC-compatibel
IBM PC-compatibel verwijst naar een klasse computers die de meerderheid van de markt voor kleine computers (microcomputers) uitmaakt tegenwoordig. Ze zijn gebaseerd op de originele IBM PC, zonder de medewerking van IBM. Ze gebruiken de Intel x86 architectuur, of een architectuur die deze emuleert, en kunnen onderling verwisselbare hardware gebruiken. Naar deze computers werd ook verwezen als PC klonen, of tegenwoordig gewoon PC's.
