Hypothalamus

The hypothalamus links the nervous system to the endocrine system via the pituitary gland (hypophysis). The hypothalamus, (from Greek ὑποθαλαμος = under the thalamus) is located below the thalamus, just above the brain stem. This gland occupies the major portion of the ventral region of the diencephalon. It is found in all mammalian brains. In humans, it is roughly the size of an almond.

L'hypothalamus est constitué par un ensemble pair de noyaux, d'origine diencéphalique, appartenant au système limbique et formant les parois inféro-latérales et le plancher du IIIème ventricule. Il intervient dans la régulation des fonctions endocrines notamment par ses connexions avec l'hypophyse, autonomes et comportementales (sexuels, alimentaires, de défense, de stress, de thermorégulation, du cycle circadien).

Der Hypothalamus liegt im Zwischenhirn des menschlichen Gehirns und wird vom Chiasma opticum eingebunden. Nach medial begrenzt der 3. Ventrikel und nach kranial der Thalamus den Hypothalamus. Das Infundibulum, der sogenannte Hypophysenstiel, verbindet den Hypothalamus mit der Hypophyse.

Podwzgórze (łac. hypothalamus, z gr.  = "pod wzgórzem") to część podkorowa mózgowia zaliczana do międzymózgowia, która nadzoruje reakcje bezwiedne organizmu. Od podwzgórza zależy homeostaza organizmu. Jest to ośrodek podkorowy autonomicznego układu nerwowego. Jego masa w mózgu człowieka wynosi około 4,5 g (co stanowi około 1/300 masy mózgu).

De hypothalamus is een onderdeel van de hersenen. Volgens sommigen maakt het deel uit van het limbisch systeem en het is samen met de thalamus de diencephalon. Het ligt onder (hypo) de thalamus. Gedurende de evolutie is het niet of nauwelijks veranderd. De hypothalamus is opgebouwd uit drie delen te weten:Mediaal deelLateraal deelPeriventriculair deelBijna elke regio van het cerebrum staat in contact met de hypothalamus. Hierdoor is de hypothalamus betrokken bij alle aspecten van de emotionele, reproductieve, vegetatieve, endocriene, hormonale, viscerale en autonome functies en heeft doorgaans een regulerende functie. Het reguleert:bloeddrukhartslaghongerdorstslaap-waak ritmeseksuele opwindinglichaamstemperatuur (zorgt bijvoorbeeld voor bibberen bij kou) De hypothalamus zorgt voor een groot deel voor homeostase. Ook speelt de hypothalamus een rol bij de drie kerngedragingen te weten:vecht- of vluchtreactievoedingsgedragvoortplantingsgedrag
