Huygens probe

The Huygens probe, supplied by the European Space Agency (ESA) and named after the Dutch 17th century astronomer Christiaan Huygens, is an atmospheric entry probe and lander carried to Saturn's moon Titan as part of the Cassini-Huygens mission. The combined Cassini-Huygens spacecraft was launched from Earth on October 15, 1997. Huygens separated from the Cassini orbiter on December 25, 2004, and landed on Titan on January 14, 2005 near the Xanadu region. It touched down on land, although the possibility that it would touch down in an ocean was also taken into account in its design. The probe continued to send data for about 90 minutes after reaching the surface.

Huygens est un module d'une sonde spatiale de l'ESA, qui était destiné à se poser sur la surface de Titan, un satellite de Saturne. Faisant partie de la mission Cassini-Huygens, Huygens fut transportée par la sonde Cassini, s'en sépara le 25 décembre 2004 et se posa avec succès sur Titan le 14 janvier 2005. Il se posa sur de la terre ferme (la possibilité qu'il aurait pu se poser sur un océan avait été prise en compte durant la conception). La sonde continua d'envoyer des données pendant près de 90 minutes après avoir atteint la surface.

Huygens is de naam van een ruimtesonde van de ESA. Deze ruimtesonde werd gelanceerd op 15 oktober 1997. Zijn einddoel was Titan, de grootste maan van Saturnus.De ruimtesonde werd vernoemd naar de ontdekker van Titan, de Nederlandse astronoom Christiaan Huygens. Hij ontdekte de maan in 1655.De ruimtesonde zat vast aan de Amerikaanse ruimtesonde Cassini-Huygens, die in juli 2004 in een baan rond Saturnus is gekomen en daar onderzoek doet. Cassini-Huygens is de grootste interplanetaire ruimtesonde die ooit gebouwd is (2004). De combinatie Cassini-Huygens weegt 5,6 ton.

Зонд «Гю́йгенс» (Huygens probe) создан Европейским космическим агентством и назван в честь голландского астронома XVII века Христиана Гюйгенса. Зонд был запущен 15 октября 1997 года в связке с космическим аппаратом «Кассини». 25 декабря 2004 года зонд отделился от своего носителя и начал самостоятельное движение к Титану. 14 января 2005 года зонд «Гюйгенс» успешно вошёл в атмосферу Титана и совершил посадку на его поверхность в области, получившей имя Ксанаду.

La sonda Huygens, fabricada por la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA) y llamada así por el astrónomo holandés del siglo XVII Christiaan Huygens, (descubridor de la luna Titán del planeta Saturno), es una sonda de entrada a la atmósfera de Titán transportada como parte de la misión Cassini/Huygens. La nave espacial Cassini-Huygens fue lanzada desde la Tierra el 15 de octubre de 1997. Huygens se separó del orbitador Cassini el 25 de diciembre del 2004, y aterrizó en Titán el 14 de enero, del 2005 cercano a la región de Xanadu.
