Hughes AH-64 Apache

The AH-64 Apache is the United States Army's principal attack helicopter, and is the successor to the AH-1 Cobra. The AH-64 is powered by two General Electric T700 turboshaft engines. The crew sits in tandem, with the pilot sitting behind and above the copilot-gunner in an armored crew compartment. The AH-64 is armed with a 30mm M230 chain gun and carries a mixture of AGM-114 Hellfire and Hydra 70 rockets on four hard points mounted on its stub-wing pylons.

L'AH-64 Apache est un hélicoptère d'attaque tout temps. Il est actuellement construit par Boeing, qui a absorbé la société McDonnell Douglas (qui avait elle-même racheté la société Hughes en 1984). La société Hughes l'avait développé à l'origine pendant la guerre froide afin de stopper les colonnes de chars d'assaut du pacte de Varsovie en cas de conflit en Europe.

L'Hughes AH-64 Apache è un elicottero d'attacco militare americano. È il successore dell'AH-1 Cobra nel ruolo di principale elicottero da attacco dell'US Army. L'AH-64 è un elicottero ognitempo, con capacità diurne e notturne, bimotore con rotore principale a quattro pale e rotore anticoppia in coda. Ha due membri di equipaggio che siedono in tandem. Il principale sistema d'arma imbarcato fisso sul velivolo è il cannone a canne rotanti M230, un arma detta chain gun (a catena) ad azionamento elettrico, calibro 30 mm. Sulle alette poste al centro dell'elicottero è possibile installare diversi carichi bellici su quattro punti di attacco, scegliendo tra diverse configurazioni di missili AGM-114 Hellfire e razzi Hydra 70.
