Huang-di, (黃帝/黄帝 huángdì) or the Yellow Emperor, is a legendary Chinese sovereign and cultural hero whom Chinese mythology presents as the ancestor of all Han Chinese. He was one of the legendary Five Emperors. He was mentioned in the Shiji by historian Sima Qian (145 BCE-90 BCE). Tradition holds that he reigned from 2697 BC to 2597 BC. His personal name was said to be Gōngsūn Xuānyuán (公孫軒轅). He emerged as a chief deity of Taoism during the Han Dynasty (202 BCE-220 CE).

L'Empereur Jaune (黄帝 Huáng Dì) est selon les Mémoires historiques (Shiji) de Sima Qian (II siècle av. J.-C.) l’un des Cinq empereurs, souverains mythiques de l’antiquité chinoise, et aurait règné de -2697 à -2598 av. J.-C. Il est considéré comme le père de la civilisation chinoise. Rarement mentionné dans les classiques, il doit sa place dans le taoïsme au courant de philosophie politique huanglao particulièrement influent au début des Han occidentaux, pour qui il représentait le souverain idéal. Divinisé, il est resté après la disparition du huanglao un dieu taoïste. Des spécialistes comme S. Papillon reconnaissent dans son mythe les traces d’une influence tokharienne. Selon certaines sources, il est un des Trois augustes souverains.

Należał do grupy pięciu legendarnych cesarzy z okresu Wu Di i uważany był za wynalazcę pisma, kompasu, koła garncarskiego, pierwszego kalendarza, astronomii, matematyki i medycyny, a w okresie rozwoju taoizmu uznawano go za jednego z głównych jego patronów (często mylono z nim mędrca tej religii, Laozi), jego wnukiem był cesarz Zhuan Xu.
