Hoyle resonance
The British astrophysicist Fred Hoyle predicted that an energy level at 7.7 MeV in carbon-12 would be excited, if the triple helium reaction occurred in the synthesis of the light elements in certain stars. Electromagnetic radiation of this energy were observed using a gamma-ray telescope and spectrometer thus lending credence to the helium 'burning' process.
