House of Lords

The House of Lords is the upper house of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is also commonly referred to as "the Lords". The Sovereign, the House of Commons (which is the lower house of Parliament and referred to as "the Commons"), and the Lords together comprise the Parliament. In Parliament the members of the 731 seat House of Lords currently outnumber the members of the 646 seat House of Commons.

La chambre des Lords (House of Lords) représente la chambre haute du Parlement du Royaume-Uni. Comme la chambre basse, la chambre des Communes, elle se situe au palais de Westminster. Sa composition, assez complexe, a été profondément modifiée par le House of Lords Act 1999. La chambre se compose aujourd'hui de 713 membres, la plupart sont nommés à vie par le monarque sur proposition du Premier ministre. Les lords temporels héréditaires ne sont plus que 92, élus parmi les membres des différentes pairies du Royaume-Uni. Vingt-six membres de l'Église anglicane sont également membres de droit.

Das House of Lords ist das Oberhaus des Britischen Parlaments. Das Parlament umfasst daneben das Unterhaus, das House of Commons genannt wird, und den Monarchen. Das House of Lords hat 733 Mitglieder und ist ein Organ, das nicht aus allgemeinen Wahlen hervorgegangen ist. Es besteht aus zwei Erzbischöfen und 24 Bischöfen der Church of England, die als Geistliche Lords (Lords Spiritual) bezeichnet werden, sowie 707 Mitgliedern aus dem Adel, die Weltliche Lords (Lords Temporal) genannt werden. Die Geistlichen Lords sitzen so lange im House of Lords, wie sie ihre kirchlichen Posten besetzen. Die weltlichen Lords dagegen sitzen auf Lebenszeit im Oberhaus. Die Mitglieder des House of Lords sind als Lords des Parlaments bekannt.

Izba Lordów (ang. House of Lords) – izba wyższa dwuizbowego parlamentu brytyjskiego, który oprócz tego składa się też z Izby Gmin i Suwerena (panującej rodziny królewskiej). Nie jest to ciało wybieralne, lecz jego skład i struktura jest uwarunkowana wielowiekową tradycją.Pełna, oficjalna nazwa Izby Lordów to: "The Right Honourable The Lords Spiritual and Temporal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament Assembled". Izba Lordów, podobnie jak Izba Gmin spotyka się w Pałacu Westminsterskim. Jej obrady plenarne odbywają się w tzw. czerwonej sali (obrady Izby Gmin odbywają się w sali zielonej).

La Camera dei Lord (House of Lords), conosciuta anche come Camera dei Pari, è una delle due assemblee parlamentari che costituiscono il Parlamento britannico, composto da due camere: la House of Commons (Camera dei Comuni, camera bassa) e la House of Lords (Camera dei Signori, camera alta).Le due camere non hanno pari poteri; l'organo decisionale è la Camera dei Comuni e il rapporto fiduciario del Governo si stabilisce solo con essa.La Camera dei Lord può però chiedere al Governo di rendere conto delle proprie politiche, influenzando indirettamente l'opinione pubblica e la Camera dei Comuni.
