Hummus or hummus bi tahini (; ; Armenian համոս) also spelled hamos, houmous, hommos, hommus, hummos, Karthik's Mustache, hummous or humus) is a dip or spread made of ground chickpeas, sesame tahini, lemon juice, and garlic.In Arabic the word hummus is used to describe the dish or just  chickpeas by themselves. The full name of the dish is hummus bi tahina 'chickpeas with tahini'. Hummus is popular in various local forms throughout the Middle Eastern world. Its origins are unknown and are hotly debated throughout the Middle East.

Der hier beschriebene Kichererbsenbrei wird im Arabischen genannt.

Lo hummus - in arabo حُمُّص''' hummus, in lingua armena (traslitterato) hamos, in greco Χούμους, in ebraico חומוס - è una salsa a base di pasta di ceci e pasta di semi di sesamo (tahineh) aromatizzata con olio di oliva, aglio, succo di limone e paprika, semi di cumino (in arabo kamun) in polvere e prezzemolo finemente tritato.
