Horn of Africa

The Horn of Africa (alternatively Northeast Africa, and sometimes Somali Peninsula) is a peninsula of East Africa that juts for hundreds of kilometers into the Arabian Sea, and lies along the southern side of the Gulf of Aden. It is the easternmost projection of the African continent. The term also refers to the greater region containing the countries of Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia. As such, it covers approximately 2,000,000 km² (772,200 mi²) and is inhabited by about 90.2 million people (Ethiopia: 75m, Somalia: 10m, Eritrea: 4.5m, and Djibouti: 0.7m).

La corne de l'Afrique est une péninsule de l'Afrique de l'Est qui s'étend depuis la côte sud de la mer Rouge jusqu'à la côte ouest de la mer d'Oman, en passant par le golfe d'Aden. Le terme aussi indique la région occupée par la Somalie, le Djibouti, l'Éthiopie et l'Érythrée.

Als Horn von Afrika wird umgangssprachlich der östlichste, keilförmige Teil von Ost-Afrika bezeichnet.Dieses „Horn“ stellt die Fläche des Kontinents dar, die zwischen dem Golf von Aden und dem eigentlichen Indischen Ozean auf der Somali-Halbinsel liegt, deren Gebiet sich nicht ganz mit der Fläche deckt, die sich hinter dem Begriff Horn von Afrika verbirgt, sondern noch darüber hinaus reicht: Das „Horn“ umfasst nämlich neben dem Staat Somalia auch den östlichen Teil Äthiopiens (Ogaden) und je nach Abgrenzung werden gelegentlich ganz Äthiopien sowie Dschibuti und Eritrea hinzugerechnet.

Il corno d'Africa è una penisola a forma di triangolo sul lato est del continente africano. Si estende nel Golfo di Aden a sud della Penisola araba (Yemen) e dello stretto di Bab-al-Mandab. Il vertice nord-orientale del Corno d'Africa è rappresentato dal Capo Guardafui.Quanto all'aspetto sociopolitico, questa regione è famosa in tutto il mondo per la sua estrema povertà ed instabilità politica, tanto da occupare gli ultimi posti nel continente e nel mondo nella graduatoria dell'Indice di sviluppo umano.

De Hoorn van Afrika is een schiereiland aan de uiterste oostpunt van Afrika, waar de Rode Zee uitmondt in de Indische Oceaan. De term wordt tevens gebruikt voor het aangrenzende gebied. In dit gebied liggen de staten Ethiopië, Somalië (met onder andere de de facto onafhankelijke gebieden Puntland en Somaliland), Eritrea en Djibouti.
