is the largest island of Japan. The nation's main island, it is south of Hokkaido across the Tsugaru Strait, north of Shikoku across the Inland Sea, and northeast of Kyushu across the Kanmon Strait. It is the seventh largest island in the world, and the second most populous after Java in Indonesia.

Honshu (jap. , Hauptprovinz; früher auch Hondo genannt) ist die größte Insel Japans und wird auch als japanisches „Kernland“ bezeichnet. Im Norden ist sie durch die Tsugaru-Straße von der Insel Hokkaido getrennt, im Süden durch die Seto-Inlandsee von der Insel Shikoku. Im Südwesten liegt die Insel Kyushu, getrennt von Honshu durch die Meeresstraße von Shimonoseki.

Na północy Cieśnina Tsugaru oddziela ją od Hokkaido, na południu Wewnętrzne Morze Japońskie od Sikoku, a na południowym zachodzie po drugiej stronie Cieśniny Shimonoseki leży wyspa Kiusiu. Honsiu jest siódmą co do wielkości wyspą na świecie.
