Holstein
Holstein (Low German: Holsteen, Danish: Holsten, Latin and historical English: Holsatia) is the region located between the rivers Elbe and Eider once existing as the duchy of Holstein and the northern limit of the traditional territories of the Holy Roman Empire. After the southern part of the Danish Duchy of Schleswig changed hands, Holstein eventually became the southern part of the combined border regions and todays German free state of Schleswig-Holstein, the northernmost region of Germany. The capital of Holstein is Kiel which lies north-east of the storied City State of Hamburg.
