Hittites

The Hittites were an ancient people from Kaneš who spoke an Indo-European language, and established a kingdom centered at Hattusa (Hittite URU) in north-central Anatolia from the 18th century BC. In the 14th century BC, the Hittite empire was at its height, encompassing Anatolia, north-western Syria about as far south as the mouth of the Litani River (a territory known as Amqu), and eastward into upper Mesopotamia. After 1180 BC, the empire disintegrated into several independent "Neo-Hittite" city-states, some surviving until as late as the 8th century BC.

Les Hittites sont un peuple rattaché aux Indo-Européens, ils envahirent l'Asie Mineure et soumirent le peuple autochtone, les Hattis, au . Ils empruntèrent à ceux-ci différents dieux, mythes et rites. De ce mélange naquit une civilisation florissante, qui perdura jusqu'au . Outre sa grande puissance militaire, la civilisation hittite semble avoir été d'une grande tolérance, aussi bien religieuse que sociale. La fin de l'empire hittite est obscure et peu connue comme nous le verrons plus tard.

Die Hethiter waren ein kleinasiatisches Volk des Altertums mit einer indoeuropäischen Sprache. Die Hethiter bildeten im 2. Jahrtausend v. Chr. ein Großreich. Ihre Hauptstadt war die meiste Zeit Hattusa, das heutige Bogazkale (bis 1960 Bogazköy genannt). Von den Hethitern werden die Hattier unterschieden, die die vorindoeuropäische Bevölkerung Anatoliens darstellen. Allerdings nannten die Hethiter ihr Reich „Hatti“.

Hetyci (biblijni חתי lub HTY) – lud posługujący się indoeuropejskim językiem hetyckim, który około XVII w. p.n.e. stworzył potężne państwo z centrum w Hattusa (dzisiejsze Bogazköy) w Anatolii. Potęga państwa opierała się na znakomicie, jak na owe czasy, uzbrojonej armii (broń z żelaza, zbroje, doskonałe rydwany bojowe). W okresie swojej największej świetności Hetyci kontrolowali Anatolię, północną Mezopotamię, Syrię i Palestynę. Państwo Hetytów upadło około 1200 p.n.e. pod naporem Ludów Morza, chociaż nieliczne hetyckie miasta-państwa w północnej Syrii przetrwały do roku 708 p.n.e.
