History of Egypt

The history of Egypt is the longest continuous history, as a unified state, of any country in the world. The Nile valley forms a natural geographic and economic unit, bounded to the east and west by deserts, to the north by the sea and to the south by the Cataracts of the Nile. The need to have a single authority to manage the waters of the Nile led to the creation of the world's first state in Egypt in about 3000 BC. Egypt's peculiar geography made it a difficult country to attack, which is why Pharaonic Egypt was for so long an independent and self-contained state. The Hyksos were among the earliest foreign rulers of Egypt, but the ancient Egyptians regained control of their country after the Hykso period. The Neo-Assyrian Empire also controlled Egypt for a while before native Egyptians regained control.

L'Egitto ha una storia lunghissima, risalente ad oltre 3 millenni prima di Cristo.La valle del Nilo forma da sempre un'unità geografica ed economica, circondata com'è da deserti ad Est e ad Ovest, al Nord dal mare e a Sud dalle cateratte del Nilo.La necessità di avere una singola autorità che gestisse le acque del Nilo portò alla creazione di uno dei primi Stati della storia del mondo, intorno al 4000 a.C., ma forse anche prima. Questa esigenza fece sì che le tribù nilotiche imparassero a vivere assieme sotto l'autorità di capi villaggio (detti, poi, dai Greci nomarchi). Attraverso alterne vicende, sviluppatesi per circa mille anni, i nomarchi scontrandosi ed alleandosi tra loro dettero infine forma a due Regni, l'Alto Egitto al Sud e il Basso Egitto al Nord, che vennero unificati in uno solo da Narmer, considerato il fondatore della I dinastia.

De geschiedenis van Egypte is bijna even lang als die van de mensheid zelf. Het heeft een lange geschiedenis als staat en is ongewijzigd gebleven door de tijden. De Nijl vormt sinds de oudheid een natuurlijke geografische grens en economische factor. De Nijl stroomt uit het zuiden via diverse cateracten naar het noorden toe alwaar deze uitmondt in de Delta.
