Hindustani

Hindustani (/ /; ; हिन्दुस्तानी, ہندوستانی), also known as "Hindi-Urdu," is a term used by linguists to describe several closely related idioms in the northern, central and northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent and the vernacular blend between its two standardized registers in the form of the official languages of Hindi and Urdu, as well as several nonstandard dialects. These two standardized languages of Hindustani are nearly identical in grammar and share a basic common vocabulary. In fact, before the Partition of British India, the terms Hindustani and Urdu were synonymous.

Hindustani (Hindi, f., हिंदुस्तानी, ہندوستانی , hindustānī, persisch, bedeutet Indisch) ist die Bezeichnung einer nordindischen Sprache, aus der sich die Standardsprachen Hindi und Urdu اردو entwickelten. Hindustani wurde in weiten Teilen des Nordens und der Mitte des indischen Subkontinents verstanden. Heute versteht man unter Hindustani die in informellen Alltagssituationen gebräuchliche mündliche Ausgleichssprache Nordindiens (und Pakistans), die anders als Hindi und Urdu keinen festen, überregional verbindlichen Regeln folgt. Hindustani ist demnach keine Standardsprache.

Język hindustani - forma języka potocznego używanego w Indiach północnych oraz na Dekanie, szczególnie popularna przed podziałem Indii Brytyjskich w 1947. Hindustani powstało na podstawie dialektu khariboli, który z kolei wykształcił się z północnych form apabhranśi śauraseni w okresie konsolidacji władzy muzułmańskiej w pierwszej połowie XIII wieku, w okolicach Delhi (niektórzy badacze uważają jednak, że hindustani powstało wcześniej, bo już na początku XII wieku).

Hindoestani (Hindi: हिन्दुस्तानी, Urdu: ہندوستانی), ook bekend als Hindi-Urdu, is een door vooral taalkundigen gebruikte overkoepelende term voor een groep aan elkaar verwante Indische dialecten en/of talen in het noorden, midden en noordwesten van het Indische subcontinent en de door het gewone volk gebruikte mengeling van de twee gestandaardiseerde varianten, het Hindi en Urdu, alsmede enkele niet gestandaardiseerde dialecten en talen. De twee gestandaardiseerde varianten van het Hindoestani zijn vrijwel identiek in grammatica en hebben een gemeenschappelijke basiswoordenschat. In feite was voordat Brits-India in 1947 werd opgedeeld in India en Pakistan, de term Hindoestani (Engels: Hindustani) synoniem aan Urdu.
