Arabic numerals
Arabic numerals, Hindu-Arabic numerals , Indo-Arabic numerals, Hindu numerals, European numerals or Western numerals are the ten digits (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9). They are descended from the Hindu-Arabic numeral system in which a sequence of digits such as "975" is read as a numeral. The Indian numerals were adopted by the Persian mathematicians in India, and passed on to the Arabs further west. They were transmitted to Europe in the Middle Ages. The use of Arabic numerals spread around the world through European trade, books and colonialism. Today they are the most common symbolic representation of numbers in the world.

Chiffres arabes
Les chiffres arabes, qui furent d'abord utilisés en France puis dans toute l'Europe et enfin dans le monde entier, ont été empruntés aux Arabes, qui les avaient eux-mêmes empruntés aux Indiens. Il faut savoir qu'actuellement plusieurs pays arabes n'utilise pas ces chiffres (0, 1, 2...) mais plutot les chiffres arabo-indiens.

Cyfry arabskie
Cyfry arabskie – cyfry stosowane obecnie powszechnie na całym świecie do zapisywania liczb. Są to kolejno znaki: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 oraz 9 i pierwotnie służyły do zapisu liczb w systemie dziesiętnym. Obecnie wykorzystywane również w pozostałych systemach (przy czym cyfry większe od 9 symbolizowane są kolejnymi literami alfabetu łacińskiego).

Arabisch-Indische cijfers
De Arabische cijfers zijn de cijfers die in de meeste schriften gebruikt worden, en ze bestaan uit tien symbolen inclusief de nul. Deze cijfers zijn handig te gebruiken en het meest geschikt voor numerieke apparaten, en daarom worden ze in de hele wereld gebruikt.
Deze cijfers zijn niet ontworpen in de Arabische wereld, maar in India. De Arabieren leerden de Indische cijfers die later als Arabische cijfers bekend zouden worden dankzij een Indische wiskundige die het paleis van de Abbasieden kalief bezocht met zijn boek van de kosmologie en wiskunde.

Algarismos arábicos
Os algarismos arábicos foram trazidos da Índia para o Ocidente e por isto também são chamados indo-arábicos.
Al-Khwarizmi nasceu na região central da Ásia, onde hoje está localizado o Uzbequistão. Posteriormente emigrou para Bagdá, onde trabalhou na “Casa da Sabedoria” como matemático durante a era áurea da ciência islâmica.
