Hindi (, Devanagari: or , IAST: , ), an Indo-European language spoken all over India in varying degrees and extensively in northern and central India, is one of the two central official languages of India, the other being English. It is part of a language continuum of the Indic family, bounded on the northwest and west by Punjabi, Sindhi, and Gujarati; on the south by Marathi and Konkani; on the southeast by Oriya; on the east by Bengali; and on the north by Nepali. It is also bordered to the south by the non-Indo-Aryan Kannada.

Le hindi (ou hindî, nom local : hindī / हिन्दी) est la plus parlée des langues de l'Inde : d'après l'édition de 1999 du World Almanach, plus de 360 millions de personnes l'utiliseraient comme première langue. Officiellement, le hindi devrait servir de lingua franca en Inde, ce qui, dans les faits, n'est pas le cas puisque environ 40 % de la population seulement déclare l'utiliser. Parlé essentiellement dans le nord et le centre de l'Inde, c'est une langue indo-européenne de la branche des langues indo-aryennes qui en est la plus vaste famille, dérivée du sanskrit et de divers prâkrits, écrite la plupart du temps au moyen de l'alphasyllabaire devanāgarī, qui se lit et s'écrit de gauche à droite.

Hindi (, hindi) ist eine indische Sprache, die in den meisten nord- und zentralindischen Staaten gesprochen wird. Es ist eine indogermanische Sprache und leitet sich von den Prakritsprachen ab. Hindi wurde am 26. Januar 1965 Amtssprache Indiens (vor oder neben Englisch). Hindi und Urdu sind so eng verwandt, dass sie zusammen theoretisch eine Sprache namens Hindustani bilden könnten, die fast auf dem ganzen indischen Subkontinent verstanden würde.

Język hindi – język z grupy indyjskiej języków indoeuropejskich, którym posługuje się ponad 400 mln mówiących - głównie mieszkańców Indii, a także Nepalu (500 tys.), Fidżi (300 tys.), Mauritiusu i Surinamu (po 100 tys.). Posługują się nim również hinduscy imigranci w Europie Zachodniej. Język hindi jest językiem urzędowym, od 1950 roku ogólnopaństwowym (angielski jest językiem pomocniczym) Republiki Indii, oraz jednym z 18 języków konstytucyjnych. W kilku indyjskich stanach i terytoriach: Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Harijanie, Madhya Pradesh, Biharze, Radżastanie oraz na terytorium stołecznym Delhi hindi (w wersji standardowej) jest oficjalnym językiem administracji stanowej oraz podstawowym językiem wykładowym w szkołach.

L'hindi (nome nativo हिन्दी o हिंदी in devanagari) è una delle numerose lingue del subcontinente indiano ed è soprattutto parlata nell'India settentrionale; è anche la lingua ufficiale nazionale ed è continuamente sottoposta a revisione nel tentativo di farle includere buona parte dell'antico sanscrito. Questo probabilmente avviene perché politici e nazionalisti, soprattutto in seguito alle tensioni con il confinante Pakistan di religione islamica e al timore derivante dalla cospicua presenza musulmana interna, hanno radicalizzato il confronto.
