Hieronymus Wolf (1516–1580) was a sixteenth century German historian and humanist, most famous for introducing a system Byzantine historiography that eventually became the standard in works of medieval Greek history.

Hieronymus Wolf (Oettingen in Bayern, 1516 – Augsburg, 1580) was een Duits humanist en filoloog. Hij legde de grondvesten voor de Duitse indeling van de Byzantijnse geschiedschrijving of historiografie.

Hieronymus Wolf es un historiador y humanista alemán del siglo XVI, conocido por haber instaurado un sistema de historiografía bizantina, transformándose posteriormente en una norma a la hora de realizar estudios y trabajos concernientes a la historia de la Grecia medieval.Nacido en Ottingen, Alemania, fue un estudiante de Philipp Melanchthon. Wolf fue educado según los ideales del movimiento humanista, avocándose a estudiar grandes cantidades de obras antiguas, griegas y latinas. En 1537 se transformará en secretario y bibliotecario de la Biblioteca de Augsburgo, en donde podrá estudiar y traducir numerosos textos griegos, antiguos y medievales.
