Azipod, Ship propulsion system in which an electric motor placed in a hydrodynamic capsule, the pod, is used to turn the propeller thus eliminating long shafts, gear boxes and all kinds of reduction gear which use too much space and determine the loss of propeller horsepower. The possibility of gyrating 360° does away with rudders.
