Heterocyclic compound
A heterocyclic compound is a cyclic compound that has atoms of at least two different elements as members of its ring(s). The counterparts of heterocyclic compounds are homocyclic compounds, the rings of which are made of a single element.

Heterocyclen
Heterocyclen sind cyclische chemische Verbindungen mit ringbildenden Atomen aus mindestens zwei verschiedenen chemischen Elementen. Der Name setzt sich zusammen aus griechisch hetero = anders, fremd und lateinisch cyclus = Kreis. Der Begriff wird vorwiegend in der Organischen Chemie verwendet und bezeichnet eine ringförmige organische Verbindung, deren Ringgerüst neben Kohlenstoffatomen mindestens ein Atom eines anderen chemischen Elements enthält. Diese Fremdatome werden als Heteroatome bezeichnet. Ein Ringgerüst kann ein oder mehrere gleiche oder verschiedene Heteroatome enthalten. Am häufigsten sind Stickstoff, Sauerstoff und Schwefel vertreten. Aromatische Heterocyclen werden auch kurz als Heteroaromaten bezeichnet.

Hétérocycle
Les hétérocycles sont une classe de composés chimiques dans lesquels un atome ou plus d'un carbocycle est remplacé par un hétéroatome comme l'oxygène, l'azote, le phosphore, le soufre, etc. Les hétérocycles les plus courants contiennent de l'azote ou de l'oxygène. Approximativement deux tiers des publications en chimie concernent de près ou de loin les hétérocycles. Un très grand nombre de substances naturelles et de médicaments sont des hétérocycles.

Zwiazki heterocykliczne
Związki heterocykliczne to niezbyt jasne pojęcie, stosowane różnie w zależności od kontekstu. Ogólnie jest to taki rodzaj związków chemicznych, w których pierścienie są zbudowane z więcej niż jednego rodzaju atomu (np. siarki i węgla).
W "typowej" chemii organicznej, za związek hetorocykliczny uważa się każdy związek cykliczny, który zawiera w swojej strukturze inny, oprócz węgla, atom. Jednak nawet w obrębie chemii organicznej nie zawsze się rozumie ten termin w ten sposób, często wyłączając z niego związki cykliczne zawierające oprócz węgla także tlen jak np: cukry oraz etery cykliczne i koronowe. W przypadku wielu związków chemicznych, które są "standardowo" zbudowane z regularnie występujących dwóch rodzajów atomów (np: tlenu i węgla patrz eter koronowy lub z krzemu i tlenu patrz cyklosiloksany, lub azotu i fosforu patrz fosfazen) terminu "związek heterocykliczny" używa się dopiero wtedy, gdy w cyklu pojawiają się jeszcze jakieś inne atomy, np: azotu lub w przypadku cyklosiloksanów i fosfazenów - paradoksalnie - węgla.
