Hertfordshire

For the similarly named county in the West Midlands region, see Herefordshire. (pronounced [] or [], abbreviated as Herts) is an inland county in England and one of the Home Counties. The etymological root of the name is the Anglo-Saxon heort ford, meaning deer crossing (of a watercourse). Deer feature prominently in many county emblems.

Hertfordshire [] (in der Regel als 'Herts' abgekürzt) ist eine Grafschaft in England, nördlich von London gelegen. Er gehört zur Verwaltungsregion East of England. In Hertfordshire leben etwa 1,1 Millionen Menschen.Hertfordshire grenzt an die Londoner Stadtbezirke Hillingdon, Harrow, Barnet und Enfield. Östlich von Hertfordshire liegt Essex, im Westen liegt Buckinghamshire und im Norden Bedfordshire, Luton und Cambridgeshire. Der Großteil der Grafschaft wird von Pendlern nach London bewohnt. 1965 verlor Hertfordshire die Ortschaft Barnet an Greater London und erhielt stattdessen Potters Bar und South Mimms von Middlesex.
