Herefordshire

For the similarly named county in the East, see Hertfordshire. Herefordshire (pronounced ) is a historic and ceremonial county in the West Midlands region of England. It also forms a unitary district known as the County of Herefordshire. It borders the English ceremonial counties of Shropshire to the north, Worcestershire to the east, Gloucestershire to the south east and the Welsh preserved counties of Gwent to the south west and Powys to the west. Hereford is a cathedral city and is the county town; with a population of approximately 50,000 inhabitants, it's also the largest settlement. The county is one of the most rural and least densely populated in England, being a largely agricultural area which is primarily known for its fruit and cider production. Its county flower is the Mistletoe.

Le Herefordshire est un ancien comté anglais devenu autorité unitaire depuis 1998. Le comté d'Herefordshire avait fusionné avec celui du Worcestershire pour former l'éphémère comté de Hereford and Worcester (1974-1998).

Herefordshire [] ist eine Grafschaft in der Region West Midlands in England. Herefordshire grenzt an die Grafschaften Shropshire im Norden, Worcestershire im Osten, Gloucestershire im Südosten und an die walisischen Grafschaften Gwent im Südwesten und Powys im Westen.1974 war das County mit der Grafschaft Worcestershire zur gemeinsamen Grafschft Hereford and Worcester verbunden worden. Zur damaligen Zeit bestanden die Distrikte South Herefordshire, Hereford und Teile von Malvern Hills und Leominster auf dem Gebiet der heutigen Grafschaft.Am 1. April 1998 wurde die Verwaltungsreform rückgängig gemacht und die Grafschaft in ein eigenständiges Gebiet eines Stadtkreises ohne weitere Distrikte (Unitary Authority) überführt.
