Since making his national-team debut in 1994, Helveg has matured into one of the most influential players in the Danish side. He made his name at Udinese Calcio, whom he joined from hometown club Odense BK in November 1993, and was a key figure as they finished third in Serie A in 1997/98. He moved to Milan AC in 1998 along with Alberto Zaccheroni and Oliver Bierhoff and his all-action style made him a regular in a successful first season which ended with Milan winning the scudetto. He can play either at right-back or on the right side of midfield, and is a fine marker but also effective coming forward. He impressed at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France where he scored one of Denmarkâs four goals in their second-round victory over Nigeria.
