The Helmsman saga is a series of novels by Bill Baldwin. A helmsman is a person who steers a ship and many types of boat. In the  merchant marine this is usually an able seaman. In the Navy it is a seaman or a quartermasterMao Zedong is commonly known as the "Great Helmsman". The unisex equivalent is helm.
