Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft

The Helmholtz Association (German: Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft) is the largest scientific organisation in Germany. It is a union of 15 scientifically, technically, biologically, and medically oriented research centers with altogether some 25,700 employees(Some 8,000 staff are scientists) and an annual budget that is about 2.3 billion euros. The official mission of the Association is "to answer great and pressing questions of science, society, and economics". The namesake of the association is the German physiologist and physicist Hermann von Helmholtz.

Die Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren (auch Hermann von Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft Deutscher Forschungszentren) ist die größte Wissenschaftsorganisation Deutschlands. Es handelt sich um einen Mitgliedsverbund aus 15 unabhängigen naturwissenschaftlich-technisch und biologisch-medizinisch ausgerichteten Forschungszentren mit zusammen ca. 25.700 Beschäftigten und einem Jahresbudget, das mehr als zwei Milliarden Euro umfasst. Erklärtes Ziel ist es, "große und drängende Fragen von Wissenschaft, Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft zu beantworten". Der Namensgeber der Gemeinschaft ist der deutsche Physiologe und Physiker Hermann von Helmholtz.
