Helle (mythology)
In
Greek mythology, Helle figured prominently in the story of
Jason and the
Argonauts.
Phrixus, son of
Athamus and
Nephele, along with his twin Helle, were hated by their stepmother,
Ino. Ino hatched a devious plot to get rid of the twins, roasting all the town's crop seeds so they would not grow. The local farmers, frightened of famine, asked a nearby oracle for assistance. Ino bribed the men sent to the
oracle to lie and tell the others that the oracle required the sacrifice of Phrixus. Before he was killed though, Phrixus and Helle were rescued by a flying golden ram sent by Nephele, their natural mother. Helle fell off the ram into the
Hellespont (which was named after her) and died, but Phrixus survived all the way to
Colchis, where King
Aeetes took him in and treated him kindly, giving Phrixus his daughter,
Chalciope, in marriage. In gratitude, Phrixus gave the king the golden fleece of the ram, which Aeetes hung in a tree in his kingdom.

Elle
Elle, è un personaggio della
mitologia greca. Era nata dal primo matrimonio di
Atamante re di
Beozia con
Nefele, da cui era nata anche
Frisso. Quando Atamante in seconde nozze sposò
Ino, figlia di
Cadmo, costei per disfarsi di Elle e Frisso, ne propose il loro sacrificio agli dei. I due comunque avvertiti per tempo e con l'aiuto di
Ermes riuscirono a fuggire su di un montone dal vello d'oro. Tuttavia quando stavano per sorvolare lo stretto che divide l'
Europa dall'
Asia Elle vi cadde dentro. Quello stretto da allora venne chiamato
Ellesponto.

Elle è una rivista diffusa in tutto il mondo, che parla di moda, bellezza, salute e intrattenimento femminile. È stata creata da Pierre Lazareff e sua moglie Hélène Gordon nel 1945. Il titolo, in francese, significa "Lei". Elle è stata lanciata in Francia nel 1945. Nel 1981, Daniel Filipacchi e Jean-Luc Lagardère hanno comprato la rivista Hachette, che includeva allora Elle. Elle venne in seguito lanciata negli
Stati Uniti, e in altre 25 edizioni. Ora è la più diffusa rivista di moda al mondo, con 39 edizioni internazionali in oltre 60 paesi. Elle conta 16 siti internet in tutto il mondo, che sono visitati da circa 1 milione di visitatori. La maggior parte (82%) dei lettori di Elle sono donne tra i 18 e i 49 anni d'eta. Helle (mythologie)
Helle is in de
Griekse mythologie de goddelijke personificatie van de
Hellespont, de zuster van
Phrixus. Ze werd geboren als de sterfelijke dochter van koning
Athamas van
Boeotië en Nephele, een
nimf. Nephele verliet haar echtgenoot om zich weer bij haar soortgenoten te voegen, waarop Athamus hertrouwde met de
Phoenicische prinses
Ino. Deze haatte haar twee stiefkinderen, die ze probeerde te vermoorden door ze aan de goden te offeren om een door haarzelf veroorzaakte
hongersnood te beëindigen. Nephele stuurde hierop
Khrysomallos, een gouden ram, om haar kinderen te redden, maar Helle verloor tijdens de vlucht haar evenwicht en verdronk in de Hellespont. Haar broer kwam aan in
Colchis, waar hij de vacht van het ram als het
Gulden vlies aan koning
Aietes gaf.
