Hebe (plant)

Hebe is a genus of plants native to New Zealand, Rapa in French Polynesia, the Falkland Islands, and South America. It includes about 90 species and is the largest plant genus in New Zealand. Apart from H. rapensis (endemic to Rapa), all species occur in New Zealand. This includes the two species, H. salicifolia and H. elliptica, that have distributions extending to South America. The genus is named after the Greek goddess of youth, Hebe. There are differing classifications for the genus and some botanists include Hebe, together with the related Australasian genera Chionohebe, Derwentia, Detzneria, Parahebe, Heliohebe, Leonohebe, in the larger genus Veronica.

Hebe (Hebe) war früher eine , und ist heute ein Teil der Gattung Ehrenpreis (Veronica). Diese etwa 100 Arten, tragen heute auch alle den Namen Veronica, Hebe ist jetzt synonym. So ist der deutsche Name "Neuseeländische Strauch-Veronika" gerechtfertigt. Botanisch werden Heben der der Wegerichgewächse (Plantaginaceae) (früher auch den Braunwurzgewächse (Scrophulariaceae)) zugeordnet. Heben sind nach der Hebe, der griechischen Göttin der Jugend benannt.

Hebe – rodzaj roślin z rodziny trędownikowatych, na który składa się ok. 100 gatunków, pochodzących większości z Nowej Zelandii, a także z Francuskiej Polinezji, Falklandów i Ameryki Południowej. Występują w bardzo różnych rozmiarach – od kilku centymetrów do kilku metrów wysokości, rosną w różnorodnych ekosystemach - od morskich wybrzeży aż po górskie zbocza. Nazwę tych roślin zapożyczono od imienia greckiej bogini młodości – Hebe.
