Rautenzeichen
Das Rautenzeichen (#), auch „Nummernzeichen“, wird in vielen Bereichen verwendet und hat entsprechend auch viele Bedeutungen. Der Name spielt auf die Raute an, die die Innenfläche des Zeichens bildet. Andere gebräuchliche Namen sind Doppelkreuz oder Hash-Zeichen; scherzhaft wird es manchmal auch als Gatter, Lattenkreuz oder Knastfenster bezeichnet.

Kardinaalteken
#
Het kardinaalteken, ook wel het hekje genoemd, wordt soms gebruikt om een nummer mee aan te duiden. Bijvoorbeeld: #12 staat voor nummer 12.
Het teken is vooral bekend door het gebruik ervan op telefoons, als een afsluitsymbool of als teken voor een nieuw begin. Bijvoorbeeld: "Typ uw code in gevolgd door het hekje".
