Hans von Aachen

Hans von Aachen (1552, Cologne - March 4, 1615, Prague) was a German mannerist painter. His name is derived from the birth place of his father, Aachen in Germany. Other variations of the name include Johann von - and - von Achen and various concisions like Janachen, Fanachen, Abak, Jean Dac, Aquano, van Aken etc. Hans von Aachen began painting in Germany as a pupil of the Flemish master E. Jerrigh. He then moved to Italy in 1574 to study further. He toured Rome and Florence, but eventually settled in Venice. He initially became a pupil of Kaspar Rems, but soon decided to develop his own mannerist technique, by studying Tintoretto and Michelangelo's followers. However, during all of his life he was influenced by the style of Bartholomeus Spranger and Hendrick Goltzius who dominated the art scene in Germany at the time.

Hans von Aachen (* 1552 in Köln; † 4. März 1615 in Prag) war ein deutscher Maler. Von Aachen gilt als typischer Vertreter des Manierismus. Zu seinen Werken gehören vor allem allegorische, mythologische und religiöse Bildnisse, darunter auch Handzeichnungen.

Hans von Aachen (ur. 1552, Kolonia - zm. 4 marca 1615, Praga) - malarz niemiecki, manierysta.W latach 1574-1588 tworzył we Włoszech, pod wpływem Correggia, Michała Anioła i Tintoretta. Następnie w Niemczech i Pradze (od 1592 był nadwornym malarzem cesarza Rudolfa II). Malował portrety, sceny historyczne, mitologiczne, religijne i alegoryczne (Sąd Parysa, Zwycięstwo prawdy pod ochroną sprawiedliwości).

Nato da una famiglia originaria della città di Aquisgrana (in tedesco Aachen, da cui il nome), è allievo del fiammingo Georg Jerrigh. Si formò sotto l'influsso dell'opera di Bartolomeus Spranger, prima di proseguire gli studi nel 1574 in Italia, a Firenze, dove dipinge diversi ritratti, a Roma e forse anche a Venezia, dal momento che egli sembra avere assimilato la lezione, oltre che del Caravaggio, anche del Tintoretto: qui sono le radici del suo manierismo.
