Hampshire

Hampshire, sometimes historically Southamptonshire, Hamptonshire, (abbr. Hants), or the County of Southampton, is a county on the south coast of England. The county borders (clockwise from West), Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey and West Sussex. The county has an area of 1,455 square miles (3,769 km²) and at its widest points is approximately 55 miles (90 km) east-west and 40 miles (65 km) north-south. The county town is Winchester situated at . The 2001 census gave the population of the administrative county as 1.24 million; the ceremonial county also includes the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton, which are administratively independent, and has a total population of 1.6 million.  Christchurch and Bournemouth, within the historic borders of the county, were made part of the non-metropolitan county of Dorset in 1974.

Die Städte Southampton und Portsmouth wurden als eigene Gebietskörperschaften (Unitary Authority) 1997 abgetrennt, obwohl sie aus zeremoniellen Gründen noch zu Hampshire gehören. L'Hampshire (abbreviazione Hants) è una contea sulla costa meridionale dell'Inghilterra nel Regno Unito. Confina con (In senso orario dall'ovest) Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey e West Sussex. Ha un'area di 3769km² e si estende nei punti più larghi per circa 90 km da est a ovest e 65 km da nord a sud. La capitale è la città di  Winchester. Il censimento del 2001 ha recensito una popolazione di 1,24 milioni di abitanti; il territorio della contea circonda anche le città di Portsmouth e Southampton, che però hanno amministrazioni indipendenti; con esse, la popolazione arriva a 1,6 milioni.
